EVENT: Intro to Role Playing Games (RPGs)

Quite a few members have asked if we do RPGs and if we'd be interested in teaching them.  The answer is a resounding "YES"!

Tim will teach you the basics of an RPG and you'll do a dungeon crawl to put those basics to use.  Tim is a seasoned DM (Dungeon Master) and has been running games since 1979.  He teaches the game strictly as a tabletop game (not cos-play, so please... no costumes...) and teaches in a learn-as-you-play format.

WHAT:  Introduction to RPGs (using the Middle Earth  Role Playing [MERP] system).

WHEN: Session 1:  September 8th, 1pm - 6pm
               Session 2: October 6th, 1pm - 6pm.

WHERE: 140 Thompson Rd., Kennett Square, PA 19348

RSVP:  We need 4 - 6 people committed to both sessions for this to work.  If we don't get four people we'll cancel.  HOWEVER, get your RSVPs in early because we are capping the attendance at 6 people (we will keep a waiting list or schedule another workshop for the overflow). RSVP BY 9/1/18.  If we need to cancel, we'll let you know by 9/5/18.

WHAT TO BRING:  Your own food and drink, dice if you got em' (we have them if you don't), an open mind, and your creativity.

ABOUT MERP
MERP is an RPG system developed in 1984. While no longer widely played, it is a great system for role playing.  The creators of MERP had the license from the JRR Tolkien estate for a time so the system is REALLY centered in Middle Earth.

Players can be a Warrior (think buff fighter), Scout (mix of a thief and a sneaky scout), Ranger (think Aragorn), Mage (think Galdalf), Animist (a mix of a druid and a healer), or Bard (a jack of all trades).  Players can also be whatever Middle Earth race you like - dwarf, elf, hobbit, lots of different types of humans, or even an orc!

We'll spend our initial time together generating your individual character.  There are all sorts of things that will make your character truly unique. Once everyone has created their character, you will receive a sketch of where you come from and why you are here.  It will be up to you to fill in the rest of your story.
We'll get to the action fairly quickly.  As we play, characters will often get their own reputations and continue to build depth.

The introduction is designed to be fun and expose you to the best parts of playing a RPG.  Even though MERP isn't widely played anymore, the basics are common to most other RPGs.
