Hi all! Tim and I are now out of Pennsylvania and are waiting to move into our new home in Virginia. As a result, the Facebook Brandywine Tabletop Gaming Club page is being removed and the calendar is no longer available. We are still looking for somebody who is willing to take on the board gaming mantle in the Brandywine Valley, to whom we would gladly turn over the blog, Facebook page, and calendar when ready! This will be our last post on this blog!

Idle Hands
Social Distancing has us both in Pennsylvania now, so we've been knocking out some fun projects. Just before we were all quarantined, Tim ran "Chain of Command" at DAWG. It was the first day of the first Battle of Kharkov. The Germans were pushing toward Kharkov against a determined Soviet defense. Play-testing allowed for a very balance game, but some really bad rolls kept the Germans from getting anywhere. Tim is planning on this being the first of three Battles of Kharkov in a campaign.
To that end, Tim has been spending his quarantine-time painting Russian countryside and city buildings! He's enjoying painting the bricks, particularly!
Tim left Wendy's Vikings in DC, so she doesn't have any figures to paint. She has gone back to the gold old days and begun a cross-stitch project that she's had in her stash for more years than she's willing to admit.Tim and Wendy decided to skip Cold Wars this year. We were registered and very much looking forward to it since we missed Fall-In. Alas - having a person in the house with severe health concerns kept us home. While we love the conventions, we just couldn't risk it for Alex's sake. We understand it went well, although not well-attended (as can be expected). So far, we have heard that Historicon is still on, but we will be playing it by ear as July draws closer.
As far as board games go -- Tim, Wendy, and Alex played a fun little game of Mission Command the other night. It's a simple board game that we all enjoy when we have a small amount of time. Wendy had terrible rolls and was out of the game fairly quickly - even with having her planes shot up as much as they could without leaving the game.
The big gaming news in the house is that Alex is streaming nightly on Twitch and developing a small following. He's been streaming Disco Elysium, Hades, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and (most frequently) Wizard of Legend. Please check him out at 8pm every night! He's has a great interaction with his audience! http://twitch.tv/Kuthillick. AND - if you buy online games, consider going through his Humble account. Half of any commission he earns goes to the JDRF to help us find him a cure for Type 1 diabetes!
We are looking forward to getting out a few board games over the next couple of weekends! Pandemic, of course, is a must, and we may try to get Scythe out so that Tim and Alex can teach Wendy.

NEWS: Update
The last couple of months have been very, very hectic and ... not so great. The good news is that most of the contractors are out of the house and we hope to be listing it soon. We MAY be able to host a game or two here and there. Stay tuned.
Our holidays were very subdued this year, so gaming has been at a minimum as a whole. We ended up skipping Barrage, Fall-In, and a Baltimore area Lard America day to focus on the house and family. We've also missed hosting games and seeing our friends at DAWG. We haven't been completely idle, though, when it comes to gaming...
Boardgames
When our daughter visits, Tim and she have been playing a LOT of Terraforming Mars. They picked up the expansion for a Christmas gift. We've also been playing a lot of Betrayal at Baldur's Gate (the Baldur's Gate edition of Betrayal at House on the Hill) as a family. We introduced our son's friend to it and had so 
much fun! We much prefer the Baldur's Gate edition, as they took some of the things we didn't like in the original game and fixed them. Some of the scenarios are still a little unbalanced, but overall, it's much better. We've also been playing Settler's of Catan (always good to go back to the basics).Miniatures
We have been to a few of the Delaware Area Wargaming Group (DAWG) events and, as always, they measure up to a great time! We also went to "A Bridge Too Lard" in the fall and had a blast. We even ended the evening with a curry, in true Lardie fashion.
Tim has been vigilantly painting his 28mm Saxons for dark ages skirmish games. Once Wendy finishes her Vikings, we have a lot of rules sets ready and waiting!

Future Gaming
We are looking forward to some future events:
- Friday, January 17th - DAWG is running What a Tanker! by Too Fat Lardies. If you're interested, please let Jim know ASAP by going to their Facebook Group and messaging him.
- March 12th - 15th - Cold Wars will be held at the Wyndham Lancaster Resort and Convention Center. From the outside, it looks like Wyndham may have actually done the place up right. The PEL is supposed to go out today and online registration is to open January 27th.
- May 2nd - Pickett's Lard II in Gettysburg (or... Littlestown, PA). Details are still coming in for that. If you're interested, keep checking out the calendar on here... I'll update it as I get more information.
That wraps up our long overdue update. Keep checking in - we really hope to host an event in February, if not at the house, then at some other location TBD. Don't forget to tell us about your own game days so that we can add them to the calendar.

NEWS: A Summer Ghost
BUT - if YOU would like to host a game day at your house (under the Brandywine Tabletop Gaming Club name), please let us know and we'll help you facilitate that! We'll do whatever you need us to do to run the day!
We went to HMGS' Historicon this year and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The new venue at the Lancaster Marriott downtown was great. While our bar bill was a bit excessive, it was a TON of fun and we played some great games.
Tim hosted a DAWG (Delaware Area WarGamers) game last weekend, running a Barbarossa scenario using Too Fat Lardies' Chain of Command. Once the house is back in order, he may run it again here. We will be going to DAWG again on 8/23, as Jim will be running Desperado and the return of One Toof Sally. NEWS: Busy Wargaming...
This past weekend was a wargaming weekend, to be sure! Friday night we joined the Delaware Area Wargaming Group (DAWG) as Greg hosted Sharp Practice! (by Too Fat Lardies). It was the first time Tim and Wendy played Sharp Practice rules. 
While neither of us are huge Napoleonics fans, Wendy really enjoyed the game. As always, Too Fat Lardies delivers a great beer and pretzels rule set. Greg set-up random commander characters. Wendy's was a real "rotter". Really - the card said that. The objective was for the French to keep the Russians from getting a keg of beer from one of the farm houses. The game went long, so we didn't officially "finish", but the Russians succeeded in at least getting the keg, but they had a long ways to go to get it out. I think they would have prevailed. Then Saturday afternoon, we went to Tom's house so he could do a final play test of the Pegasus Bridge scenario that he's running this Friday and Saturday at Historicon in Lancaster. He's using the Too Fat Lardies' Chain of Command. His Pegasus Bridge set-up is STUNNING! He was running the movie, "The Longest Day" while we were playing and he did a beautiful job of recreating the scenes. Amazing. If you're going to Historicon, I suggest you stop by and check it out. Tom didn't really need our help, as he had the game fairly well balanced and fun to play. Here are those pictures:

NEWS: No June Gaming Day, but Wait...
Summer is a crazy time of the year for all of us, so we've decided to take a month off and not have a June Gaming Day. BUT...
On Friday, June 21st, DAWG (Delaware Area Wargaming Group) is hosting What A Tanker! by Too Fat Lardies. If you're interested in attending, please contact Jim Ferich through DAWG's Facebook page.
Don't forget that the Kennett Library has Tea and Boardgames every other Wednesday at 5:30 pm. The next one is tonight! We recommend that you call ahead of time to verify the date and time.
In July, we are headed to Historicon 2019 in Lancaster, PA for an extended weekend of tabletop miniature gaming. Hands down, it is one of our favorite cons to attend and look forward to it every year. If you haven't gone, it's close enough to the Brandywine Valley to make a day trip. I suggest you check it out. NEWS: A Note About Facebook and RSVPs
The other reason I'll be using FB less is because their Events feature doesn't work well for planning. Knowing about how many people will be attending helps us know what rooms and how many tables to set-up (or if we need to cancel because it's a bad weekend for folks). FB doesn't allow us to turn off the "Interested" response, which isn't helpful to our planning.
Some notes about Eventbright... you do not need to print or bring the "ticket" to the event. We get a list of who will be attending and that's enough for us. If you register for an event, but something comes up, NO PROBLEM... just email us and let us know. We can take your name off the list.
Finally, if you're not on FB a lot yourself, you can get updates from this website by either signing up through an RSS feed (Subscribe to BTGC), or entering your email address (Follow by Email)... or both. I won't flood your inbox with daily emails. I generally keep posts to Events (once or twice a month), Newsletters (once a quarter), Post-Event synopsis (sometimes, not always), and news updates like this (irregular). If I feel chatty, it will go on FB.
We're not getting rid of the FB group, because it definitely has its uses. I am, however, going to be presenting all the information for the group in this webpage/blog, then simply posting the link onto FB. Our son, Alex, will be helping to keep the FB current and monitoring it regularly; so - for the die-hard FB fans, you won't miss a thing and I will still be responding in a timely manner!
I have also set-up New Email Address for the group so that you can RSVP via email if you'd like.

EVENT: Intro to RPGs
Tim will teach the basics of an RPG and do a dungeon crawl to put those basics to use. Tim is a seasoned DM (Dungeon Master) and has been running games since 1979. He teaches the game strictly as a tabletop game (not cos-play, so please... no costumes...) and teaches in a learn-as-you-play format.
WHAT: Introduction to RPGs (using D&D 2nd Edition - we're a little behind the times, but the basic concepts are the same).
WHEN: Session 1: February 23rd, 1pm - 6pm
Session 2: March 9th, 1pm - 6pm.
WHERE: 140 Thompson Rd., Kennett Square, PA 19348
RSVP: We need 4 - 6 people committed to both sessions for this to work. If we don't get four people we'll cancel. HOWEVER, get your RSVPs in early because we are capping the attendance at 6 people (we will keep a waiting list or schedule another workshop for the overflow). RSVP BY 2/16/19. The family received Above & Below (Grace is our resident expert - she's played it at college) and Terraforming Mars. We also got Istanbul for Thanksgiving.
Tim received a new play mat for all general terrain games. He also got the rule set for Bag the Hun (from Too Fat Lardies) for which we have everything except an understanding of the rules.
